SUSVIMO Implant

SUSVIMO is an innovative treatment option for adults with Wet Age‑related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Diabetic Macular Edema (DME), or Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) who have responded to at least two injections of a VEGF inhibitor. The medication is delivered into the eye using the SUSVIMO implant. This implant works by continuously releasing ranibizumab, an anti-VEGF medication that helps control abnormal blood vessel growth and fluid leakage. Once implanted, many patients can go months between treatments while maintaining vision outcomes similar to monthly injections.

How Does SUSVIMO Work?

What Happens During the Implantation?

The SUSVIMO implant is placed during an outpatient surgical procedure at Amarillo Cataract & Eye Surgery Center.

  • Preparation: The eye is numbed, and sedation or anesthesia may be provided for comfort.

  • Implant Placement: A small, permanent implant is carefully placed into the wall of the eye.

  • Medication Delivery: The implant continuously releases medication into the eye over several months.

  • Refill Appointments: Instead of receiving frequent injections, the implant is refilled during an in-office visit approximately every six months.

The Benefits of SUSVIMO

SUSVIMO offers a new approach to managing certain retinal conditions by delivering medication continuously through a refillable implant. For many patients, this can significantly reduce the treatment burden associated with frequent injections while maintaining the vision benefits of anti-VEGF therapy. Regular monitoring and scheduled refill appointments help ensure the implant continues to provide effective, long-term treatment.
